New Microsoft Online Business Reality Show Via MSN

A new Microsoft online business reality show is scheduled to debut today, June 15th, via MSN. The first episode of “It’s Everybody’s Business with Jack & Suzy Welch,” will welcome viewers to an online business designed as the “la piece de resistance” of an interactive website dedicated to business customers. For this endeavor, the Redmond
company has partnered with advertising agency JWT, production company Reveille, as well as General Electric CEO Jack Welch, and his wife, business journalist Suzy Welch.

“We've all sat in those less-than-pleasant meetings where people don't agree,” said Gayle Troberman, the advertising general manager in charge of the “It’s Everybody’s Business” campaign. “Tough decisions and choices have to be made. This first episode shows how one company and one business guru, Jack Welch, approach decision-making, particularly in this economy.”

Troberman explained that the new online business reality show was designed to reach out to customers, and also to get them engaged and involved, through commercial advertisements that have evolved into a comprehensive series for the campaign. In addition to the episodes featuring the Welches, users will also be able to access a variety of resources including case studies, technology solutions, white papers, and even social media commentary, Microsoft informed. Troberman, who is also leading the efforts behind the “I'm a PC” campaign, indicated that in the end, the focus of both marketing efforts was to illustrate to customers what they could do if they picked Microsoft as their partner.

“The relationship we want to have with business customers involves authentic, strategic partnership and counsel,” Troberman added. “This show is designed to help IT and business people learn through the real experiences of other companies. It’s an amazing moment in marketing when we can use technology to bring this type of behind-the-scenes business experience to millions of people who might never have the chance to go toe to toe with the Welches on their own business challenges.”

Introducing SMS for Windows Live

Free except for the costs of the text messages

There is now a new way of accessing information on Windows Live accounts via SMS. Microsoft has introduced SMS for Windows Live in the US after the service debuted in the UK. What SMS for Windows Live does is allow mobile phone users to leverage text messages in order to view and update the information associated with their Windows Live accounts. Just simple text messages, no Internet mobile browsing, no extra charges on users' data plans.

Dawn Hollingsworth,, from the Windows Live team, explained that via SMS for Windows Live users would be able to “update your personal message; check your Windows Live Calendar; invite people to join your network; get contact info for people in your Windows Live contact list.”

According to Hollingsworth, users will need to associate their mobile number with a specific Windows Live account. After signing in to the Windows Live account, the mobile phone number needs to be entered in the text box under Set up SMS. For the next step users will have to make corrections if any are necessary, and then wait for a text message containing a four-digit PIN code.

“Enter the PIN code and click Next. Your mobile phone number is registered with your Windows Live account. Now you need to start the service. To start using the new SMS for Windows Live services, under Personal Message, Calendar and Contacts, click Start. You’re all set to go,” Hollingsworth explained.

There are no additional costs for using SMS for Windows Live beyond standard SMS messaging costs, Microsoft informed. The Redmond company underlined that any charges would be exclusively with the mobile operators, and that SMS for Windows Live was otherwise free.

In addition to the steps enumerated above, users will also be required to “send a text message (SMS) with a “command” to a shortcode: If you’re in the US and your mobile operator is AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, or Nextel, your shortcode is MyLive or 695483. If you’re in the UK and your mobile operator is Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, O2, or Virgin, your shortcode is 88804,” Hollingsworth said.

For the time being the SMS for Windows Live service is available exclusively to Windows Live users in the US and UK. Microsoft delivered no details on when or even whether it planned to open up the service to additional markets around the world.

Germany and Google Still at Odds over Street View

The company still needs to clarify some issues according to data protection officials

Germany and Google are still at odds over Street ViewLast month Google's Street View once again came under scrutiny, this time in Germany. While at the time it looked like the two parties, the search giant and the German data protection officials, were on their way to an agreement, it seems like their dispute hasn't been resolved yet, because they haven't been able to reach a compromise on how long certain data should be stored by the Mountain View company for its Street View service.

Google Street View offers photos from every street corner in cities around the world, which has had some people worried about public privacy. This prompted German data protection officials to question the search giant's practices and asked it to change certain features and procedures. The most debated issue was for how long Google should be allowed to keep raw images it acquired from its mobile outposts. These images are processed and faces and license plates are blurred to protect citizens' privacy.

The Internet company had a video conference on Wednesday with the German officials from Hamburg discussing this latest issue, with the latter wanting to know why and for how long Google needed to store the raw photos.

Johannes Caspar, head of the data protection agency in the Hamburg region, the man who first threatened Google last month with “unspecified sanctions” if it did not comply with their demands, said that while the company had been cooperative in certain aspects the issue of the raw photos remained unclear.

The search giant stated that it did permanently delete the raw photos but only after it was done processing them and using them to enhance its blurring technology. "The request to introduce a fixed period during which the data is retained has implications for the industry as a whole and will therefore require broader discussion," the statement said.

Google Street View isn't yet available in Germany but the company has been collecting photos for the service. The data protection agency is still debating how and if the German law applies to Street View and will provide an answer as soon as next week.

Zune.net Gets Updated

New features are now live

Zune HDMicrosoft has updated Zune.net adding new functionality to the website. As a direct consequence, Zune.net was down on the night of June 8, with Jessica Zahn, Zune Social program manager, having announced in advance that new features would be coming. The new additions introduced to the website will allow users to better keep in touch with their
favorite musician, both on the web and in real life. At the same time, Microsoft is boosting the social networking capabilities of Zune.net, and is making it easy for music fans to discover new content by recommending items.

“We'll have some new features on the web – including "follow an artist," where you can explicitly state that you like a particular artist and get news and updates from that artist. We'll do RSS feed aggregation on artist pages – which means that from the one artist page on zune.net, you can see your favorite artist's latest Twitter posts, blogs, and so on (and if your favorite artist doesn't have this data already, you will be able to add the links yourself). We're adding more content, including concert dates, to the web, and we've redesigned our home page to showcase more of our social data,” Zahn
explained.

Microsoft indicated that the update would focus on making the website faster, with performance improvements. At the time of this article the update to Zune.net had already been delivered, and the website was up and running at full capacity. Users will be able to take advantage of the new features immediately.

At the end of May 2009, Microsoft confirmed that it was stepping up its game when it came to the digital media player device face-off with Apple, and that it was planning to go against iPod Touch in the second half of this year. The Redmond company revealed that it was planning to deliver
Zune HD, a device sporting features such as OLED touch-screen interface, 16:9 widescreen display at a resolution of 480x272, support for 720p HD video files, and even an HD Radio receiver. Read More .....

Behold, the New iPhone 3G S Is Here

New iPhone 3G S features built-in compass The new iPhone 3G S - twice as fastThe new iPhone iteration has been rumored to get an official launch at WWDC for the past couple of months, and it seems that Apple has decided to put an end to all the speculation and finally unleash the revamped handheld onto a world of awaiting fanboys and fangirls, either confirming of debunking some of the many rumors in the process. And while the new iPhone 3G S is indeed a very interesting piece of equipment, it remains to be seen whether the upgrades with respect to the previous 3G model are so radical that they're really worth the high price point.

First and foremost, the most important fresh feature the iPhone 3G S will be its running the new iPhone 3.0 operating system, which, as we all know only too well, represents a major step forward from the point of view of usability and available features. But we've already talked earlier about this new OS, so we'll move forward to the actual spec improvements.

According to Apple, the new iPhone 3G S features an improved processor (although no specific info regarding this component has been provided), capable of doubling its overall functioning speed. Plus, it takes advantage of the OpenGL ES 2.0 standard for high-quality 3D graphics, thus improving mobile gaming and other graphic intense applications.

Another major upgrade is represented by the fresh 3-megapixel autofocus camera, which lets users adjust focus, exposure, color and contrast, and includes an automatic macro focus for extra close up shots. Additionally, the camera can be used for recording videos at 30fps and 640x480 pixel resolution, the OS also providing very useful in-phone editing features.

Furthermore, the iPhone 3G S also supports 7.2 Mbps HSDPA for faster networking speeds and an improved battery life, offering up to five hours of talk time on 3G, up to nine hours of Internet browsing on Wi-Fi, and up to a whopping 30 hours of music playback time.

Another function worth mentioning is the voice control feature in iPhone 3G S, which offers hands free operation for both iPhone and iPod functions by allowing users to simply speak the appropriate commands into the built-in microphone or headset microphone to dial by name or number. Apple’s handheld also sports a new built-in digital compass for instant navigation, plus a couple of fresh accessibility features including VoiceOver, a screen reader that speaks what appears on the iPhone 3G S display, enabling visually impaired users to make calls, read emails, browse web pages, play music and run applications and the new universal Zoom function that magnifies the entire screen. iPhone 3G S supports Mono Audio, which combines left and right audio channels so that they can be heard in both earbuds for those with hearing loss in one ear.

And now, for the pricing. The fresh iPhone 3G S will be available in the US on June 19 for a suggested retail price of $199 for the 16GB model and just $299 for the new 32GB model, but people who want it, will have to enter, as expected, a two-year agreement with US carrier AT&T. No word on worldwide availability for the time being, but that's most likely to follow in the coming months.

The World's First Windows XP-Powered Phone

A Chinese manufacturer came to the Computex show in Taipei on Friday with a mobile phone that it claimed to be the first handset in the world to run under Microsoft's Windows XP operating system. Basically, said device comes as a combination between a mobile phone and a pocket-sized computer and has been developed by In Technology, a company from the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

The so-called xpPhone includes a custom-made chip from the Sunnyvale-based Advanced Micro Devices, and is reported to have the capability to wake the Windows operating system from a standby mode when it receives a call or a text message.

The handset boasts a 4.8-inch LCD touchscreen that delivers an 800 x 480 pixel resolution, while also featuring a QWERTY keypad and a hard-disk with a capacity of 120GB. The 2.5 centimeters thick mobile phone weighs 400 grams and is powered by a battery that can boast up to seven hours when not in standby mode. However, it also allows for a larger battery to be included, one that could allow it to run for 12 hours.

According to the news, the Windows-powered device will also come with Wi-Fi connectivity, along with optional WiMax, and GPS. Unfortunately, it seems that the company hasn't stated anything specific about the processor that powers the handset, only calling it the “AMD Super Mobile,” and neither has it explained how the phone would allow users to make calls from Windows XP.

Even so, it seems that the company plans to get the device out on the market in China in a three months’ time, and make it available in other markets later during the ongoing year, according to Brad Wu, vice president of In Technology. In addition, the company is also reported to plan on developing the China-developed 3G mobile standard called TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access).

Internet Advertising Revenue Down in Q1 2009

Confirming what many already feared, Internet advertising was down in the first quarter of 2009. According to reports released by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), an association of industry players that governs ad standardization on the web, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC), Internet advertising revenues in the US went down to $5.5 billion in Q1 2009.
The decline represented a 5 percent drop over the same period of 2008 and follows a surprising rise in the last quarter of 2008 where ad revenue was at an all time high. “Current economic conditions are clearly challenging," David Silverman, PwC Assurance partner, said. “Nonetheless, interactive media continues to consume a larger piece of the overall advertising pie.”

“Interactive advertising has taken its rightful place as a fixture on marketing plans across sectors, which means we aren’t immune to broader economic trends,” said Randall Rothenberg, President and CEO of the IAB. “Nevertheless, consumers are spending more and more time with interactive media. For this, and other reasons, interactive media continues to gain share of marketing spend. We’re confident that growth will resume as the U.S. economic climate improves. Interactive advertising is the most accountable way to reach consumers - and in this economy, digital media will be a core component of any successful marketing campaign.”

The results are not surprising considering the current economic environment as advertising revenues went down in all major mediums with newspaper advertising revenue dropping an unprecedented 28.28 percent in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the same period last year. This amounts to $2.6 billion in lost income. These figures include both online and print advertising but the biggest drop was in real-life newspaper ads with a 29.7 percent decline to $5.9 billion. Online newspapers ad sales also declined by 13.4 percent to just $696.3 million in the same period.

Windows Startup Manager

Enable, disable or remove items from Startup

System Startup affects the way your PC will boot. In order to gain time and boot faster you need to optimize, sort and manage startup items. On a regular basis, it is recommended to boot with a small number of applications that “eat” all resources and decrease the amount of memory left for the operating system’s components to load, and in this regard there are solutions to optimize the loading process.

You can create some sort of order for the applications to start (leave the ones that require more memory at the end of the list so that OS components would load first), apply delay time between loading applications, or just use the smallest, easiest startup manager you can find and remove or disable unwanted startup entries.

The latter solution is easy to apply but not so effective, because we often need certain applications to start with Windows (antivirus – which takes a big bite out of the system’s memory, firewall, or any other security-related programs) and others to launch with a delay. This kind of programs will make the difference, when it comes to system startup.

The WhatInStartup application was designed to be a small, easy-to-use startup manager that would help the user disable, enable or remove startup entries. From the get go I must mention that the review was made for the initial release (1.00) of the software, so it is still a work in progress.
WhatInStartup is free of charge and requires from Windows 2000 up to Windows 7 operating systems to work. It does not install or add any registry entries to Windows, and all you have to do is extract the files and run the application. It can also be copied to portable drives and run from there. All the modifications that are made will be stored in a configuration file within the root directory.

I can say that I was pleased to notice that WhatInStartup lists all the startup entries instantly, when you first run it (I found other startup managers that were a little slow with the indexing process). The main window will display a list with the available items. Column Settings will let you choose what columns you would like to appear in the main window. Select all of them and you will have a report about every item.

For each entry you can select to view the name, type (Machine or User Run), command line (the process runs with command line parameters, e.g. -hide, -autorun), disabled (status: yes / no), product name. The following five columns provide user information about file version, product description (as mentioned by manufacturer), company, location (and this is very important because you can see the actual registry key location) and product path.

There is much information about the entries, so WhatInStartup also provides an HTML and text report summary for all or each item separately. The first test that I did was using Winamp, which adds an entry to the startup list. WhatInStartup will allow you to create a system tray icon so that any modifications to startup can be indexed. After installing Winamp, with WhatInStartup running in system tray, the entry did not appear in the main list.

After a quick refresh (use the Refresh button) the entry was added to the list. I think that a small adjustment would help a lot – to let the user set up some sort of refresh time for new entries to be indexed. Instant refresh would be even better.

The developer talks about “a special Permanent Disabling feature” (see product page) that is implemented in Permanent Disable Mode, found in the Options tab menu. It refers to the applications that you disabled and which will try to create startup entries again.

The test that I did to prove that this feature works involved disabling Winamp from WhatInStartup. All changes that are made will take effect after system reboot. Although the Winamp Agent entry was still in the list of startup items found by msconfig command (Start>Run>msconfig), the Winamp tray icon did not appear after reboot.

The User Interface offers you the possibility to choose the startup scheme from Advanced Options. This is very useful when you have multiple OSes installed and you want to load other startup list than the one in C:\Windows.

The Good

The application provides a simple but efficient way to enable, disable or remove startup entries in order to optimize system boot time. All information about the items can be summarized in an HTML or text report. WhatInStartup does not require any installation so you can run it from portable drives too. The Permanent Disabling feature and its implementation are something I found only in WhatInStartup.

The Bad

Unlike the msconfig command (Start>Run>msconfig), WhatInStartup will not show startup services too. The User Interface needs a few adjustments to look more attractive, even if you run the application on XP.

The Truth

WhatInStartup is a simple, easy-to-use tool that can help you view information about startup entries, create a summary report, enable, disable, and keep applications disabled, or remove entries.

To gain more time in system boot you can use three general schemes: apply a delay after each component, create boot order, or remove unwanted applications that require a lot of memory from startup. WhatInStartup provides only the last scheme. It would be a plus to find one more.

Here are some snapshots of the application in action:

Free Backup Solution Home use file backup alternative

One of the darnest things about computers is that you can't really trust them. As advanced as technology today is, hardware failures still happen, sometimes taking with them important files and data with low chances of recovery. There is little you can do to work against this malevolent happening (and most times, there is absolutely nothing to prevent the disaster) but at least some preventing actions can be taken in order to ensure the retrieval of the lost data.
GFI Backup loading screen
Backing up your most important files is a simple task that can be performed manually by simply copying the desired information to a safe location (external hard disks would be my first recommendation) or automatically, with the use of specialized software.

GFI Backup 2009 Home Edition could be one way to make copies of important data easily and without hassle. The application has a strong background to rely on as it is actually Neobyte Solution's Titan Backup, a good application for the matter at hand. But the difference is that GFI makes available the data backup answer free for home use. Other than that, everything is pretty much the same.
Once installed and launched, the application will take a second or two to load all of its components, but after this is done, a pretty looking interface with sections well defined awaits. The four divisions let you create a new backup and restore files, view all of your tasks, and synchronize data between two locations. You are given clues for all of them and the explanations are more than comprehensive.

Regardless of the section you choose, if you proceed with an action sooner or later, you'll hit a wizard that guides you through a successful job. This way, even a total noob will work his/her way successfully without too much hassle.

The backup jobs GFI Backup 2009 Home Edition has been designed for include files, folders, registry keys, emails, or user settings for different pieces of software, basically almost all one would need. As for flexibility, the app allows you to store the backup locally, in a LAN location, removable storage devices, send it to a remote location via FTP or burn it to a CD/DVD.

Each operation in GFI Backup 2009 Home Edition is saved as a task that can be run multiple times (manually or automatically, according to a schedule you set). For backing up data, a five-step wizard will walk you through the entire process, from choosing the data and where you want it to be stored, to defining the frequency of the task.

The starting screen lets you name the task, provide a brief description, enable email notification in case of errors, warnings or summaries, and pick the group you want to place it in. If creating different groups can be done straight from this window, providing the necessary details for email notifications is to be done from the Options screen of the application.

Moving onward to the source of the backup, you will find the possibility to save both files and folders, but emails (Windows Mail, Opera, Mozilla Thunderbird, Outlook Express, Eudora and Microsoft Outlook are the clients supported for which you can save accounts, settings, etc.), registry keys and the settings for various other applications you may use.

Review image Review image Review image Review image Review image

For the last, there is a list of over 40 programs available covering different utilities (Total Commander, PuTTY, WinSCP, WinRAR, WinZip, etc.), web browsers, instant messengers, graphics and web design apps, text editors, audio and video players. Besides the fact that all of them are popular programs, so the chances for you to use them are greater, the beauty of this list consists in the fact that the software not present on the system is grayed out. To put it shortly, GFI Backup 2009 Home Edition detects the installed apps.

As mentioned above, the destination location of the resulting backup can be any path on the system (removable devices such as USB sticks and memory cards included), a LAN folder, or you can upload them to a remote location via FTP. The credentials for FTP uploading can be inputted from this window directly, but management of multiple locations can be properly done from the Options panel of the software. To ensure that all's right, GFI Backup 2009 Home Edition lets you test the connection first and then save it for future uploads.

Compression and Encryption step of the wizard deals with making the backup file as small as possible, as well as protect it against any unauthorized access. It uses ZIP compression, password protection and AES 256-bit encryption. As for the type of backup, GFI Backup supports both incremental (saves only the changed files) and differential (the backup does not include the files that are no longer present in the source) jobs. But it also features Stack Backup, which will create different versions of the file, with the possibility to automatically preserve only a user-defined number.

Review image Review image Review image Review image Review image

Completely automatizing a backup task is also possible with GFI Backup, as the flexible scheduler permits planning a task with a certain frequency or at a specific time. If the backup time is missed, you can enable rescheduling the task.

The final step before actually proceeding to creating the backup is the notification section. Here you can enable visual, audio and email sending notifications for errors (halts executions), warnings (does not stop execution) and summary (after task completion). There is also the possibility to enable the verification of the job or running different software before/after the task.

My Tasks window shows all the jobs you create (backup and synchronization) and permits adjusting the settings as you see fit. From this window, you can start a new backup/synchronization/restore job. Moreover, encrypted archives can be decrypted, erase RW CDs/DVDs, duplicate tasks, access the logs, or import tasks.

Restoration procedure may be a reverse backup operation, but the truth is that there are much less settings to deal with. It consists only in choosing whether you want to restore an entire backup or just individual files and folders from it. The advanced view in My Tasks screen permits browsing through all the folders of the selected task and choose the elements you want to yank out. Needless to say, the data can be placed either in the original location or any other place you want on the local hard disk.

Review image Review image Review image Review image Review image

Synchronizing two folders is not much different from backing up data. There are six steps of the wizard now, but only three of them are a bit unfamiliar. The first two are for the locations involved in the process where the second is almost exactly the same as the destination screen for backup. The details for the first location permit choosing whether to retain the folder structure or not (it all depends on the number of sub-folders involved).

Under Options, GFI Backup provides two comparison modes (by date only and by date and CRC), as well as the automatic actions to be taken for conflict resolution (prompt and wait for user input, prompt for 5 minutes or no prompt at all) and the default action for conflict window (copy the newest/oldest file or the one from first/second location).

GFI Backup is a complete solution for home use, to create backups of all your important documents, pictures, emails, settings and more. The easy-to-manage interface combined with the wizard to guide you through and the configuration options make it suited for beginners and advanced users alike, as you are given the chance to choose individual files or folders, as well as file types, registry keys and application settings.

Review image Review image Review image Review image Review image

The backups can be stored safely thanks to the proprietary format and, for better security, they can be encrypted using the AES 256-bit standard. Scheduling leads to automatic task running that can be checked with the use of the logs.

The Good

The software has a clear interface with straightforward wizards to guide you through the successful completion of the job. You can store the backups practically anywhere you want, as FTP upload is supported, CD/DVD burning and all sorts of removable devices.

ZIP compression features the creation of a self-extracting archive for more comfortable restoration, without the need of the application itself. It supports incremental and differential backups.

Tasks can be organized in groups for even easier management and everything can be manipulated from the system tray agent.

The Bad

The only downside to the application is that, sometimes, after creating a new backup task and setting it for manual run, it would take quite a long time for it to start.

The Truth

Released as freeware, and given the easy management of the tasks, as well as the possibility to full automation of the jobs, GFI Backup 2009 Home Edition has little competition to fight with.

The application addresses both beginners and advanced users through its wizard-driven task creation and flexibility of options.

Windows Live OneCare Bests Kaspersky, Symantec, McAfee, Nod32, BitDefender But not Avira

Windows Live OneCareIf you're going to go out, at least go out with a bang. This seems to be Microsoft's motto for Windows Live OneCare, a security solution that, in the latest comparative tests performed by AV-Comparatives, managed to best almost all rival products, including offerings from Eset, BitDefender, Kaspersky, AVG, Avast, Sophos, Symantec, McAfee, Norman, Kingsoft, G Data and F-Secure. OneCare, which has but a few more months to live, had a proactive detection rate of new malware of 60%. Only Avira AntiVir Premium 8.2.0.374 managed to score higher, with a detection rate of 69%.

The tests performed by AV-Comparatives were focused on the generic and heuristic techniques security products use in order to detect and stop malicious code for which no virus signatures exist. AV-Comparatives only updated the security solutions tested until February 9, 2009, and used malware samples from February 9 until February 16.

“AV-Comparatives published the May edition of its proactive/retrospective testing to measure 16 anti-virus vendors’ capability in detecting new threats. Microsoft anti-virus received one of only 3 Advanced+ ratings. Our detection rate was 60%, the second best among the participants, and we had the fewest false positive samples,”
revealed a member of the Forefront team.

Eset's Nod32 delivered a proactive malware detection rate of 56%, BitDefender 12.0.11.4 managed just 50%, AVG Anti-Virus 8.0.234 - 45%, Avast professional Edition 4.8 – 42%. For Sophos Anti-Virus 7.6.4 the detection rate was 37%, 35% for Symantec Norton 16.2.0.7, 25% for McAfee VirusScan Plus 13.3.117 and 14% for F-Secure Anti-Virus 9.00.149.

Still, what recommends Windows Live OneCare's proactive protection over that of its rivals is the extremely low number of false positives. OneCare did not have more than a couple of false positives, which means that the security solution is highly unlikely to detect genuine files as malware.

IE8 RTW – Download New Wave of Releases

Microsoft may have already started gathering feedback for Internet Explorer 9 and debuted planning for the next iteration of IE, but it is still in the process of making Internet Explorer 8 available worldwide. On May 29, 2009, the Redmond company released a new wave of IE8 RTW downloads, the third one since the initial release of the browser. A total of 20 new flavors of Internet Explorer 8 have been released to web and are now up for grabs for users worldwide.

The 20 new IE8 releases offered represent just as many new localized versions of the browser. IE8 now comes in Albanian, Assamese, Basque, Bengali (Bangladesh), Bengali (India), Gujarati, Indonesian, Kannada, Kazakh, Konkani, Kyrgyz, Malay (Brunei Darussalam), Malay (Malaysia), Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Uzbek (Latin). While IE8 RTW in all the languages enumerated above is indeed available for 32-bit Windows Vista, the same is not valid for users of Windows XP.

As far as x86 XP is concerned, some support is missing for some languages such as Assamese, while for other ones, including Punjabi, the release is “coming soon,” according to
Vishwac Sena Kannan, international program manager, Internet Explorer. With the latest wave of downloads, Internet Explorer 8 now comes with support for a total of 63 languages. That's seven short compared to Firefox 3.5, which is now at Beta 4 stage and heading toward the first Release Candidate. With Firefox 3.5, formerly version 3.1, Mozilla offers no less than 70 localized versions of the open-source browser.

Microsoft released IE8 to web in March 2009 at the MIX09 conference. At that time, the software giant was offering just 25 localized versions of the browser. The number grew with the addition of
18 releases on April 28. At the end of April, Microsoft had also started the automatic distribution of Internet Explorer 8. The browser is offered through Windows Update to all users of IE6 and IE7, but also pre-final IE8, on Windows XP and Windows Vista with AU enabled. Users have to give the update the green light, as previous versions of IE will not upgrade to IE8 automatically. Read More .....

Windows 7 Pre-RTM Build 7137 98 Screenshot Gallery

Windows 7 Build 7137 is the latest interim development milestone of the next iteration of the Windows client that was leaked into the wild. While the build indeed provides confirmation that Windows 7 is moving toward the RTM milestone, it will not satisfy the hunger for the gold release of the operating system. Fact is that even as early as Beta Build 7000, Windows 7 feels ready for release. And while the Redmond-based company beat its own estimates for general availability, now pressing ahead for a pre-holiday (read mid-October 2009) launch, it is not about to rush the release of Windows Vista's successor. This even though, technically, Windows 7 Release Candidate Build 7100 is as close to RTM as possible.

“As you can imagine, our team is quite busy working through this next phase of Windows 7. We definitely appreciate the millions of downloads and installs of the Windows 7 RC. Things are going as we expect at this point. On a personal note, I wanted to thank all the folks who have been sending me mail. I’ve received a lot of kind words and support regarding the RC and quite a few people saying 'hurry up and just release it'. We outlined the steps we’re taking for this next milestone and aren’t going to rush things. We’ve got a lot of work for sure,” revealed Steven Sinofsky, Senior Vice President, Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group.

Sinofsky provided the update earlier this week. There isn't much there, but mentioning that everything is going as expected in fact means that Windows 7 is on track to being released to manufacturing and the to the public in the second half of this year. Microsoft is yet to discuss any official upcoming delivery deadlines, but will most likely do so later in the development of Windows 7 towards RTM. According to unconfirmed reports, the pricing for Windows 7, for example, will be unveiled to the public in mid-June 2009. I've said it before, and I'm willing to repeat it, it will be a mistake for Microsoft to price Windows 7 above Vista, no matter the quality gap between the two platforms.

Stick with the RC

Windows 7 Build 7137 brings nothing new to the table. At least not on the surface, because the product is evolving toward RTM. Testers that are currently using
Windows 7 RC Build 7100 should stick with that release. Users looking to get aboard the Windows 7 testing wagon should also download and install Windows 7 RC available from Microsoft. Using the activation product keys from the Redmond-based company, Widows 7 RC can be used until at least March 2010, at which time the operating system will start to shut down every two hours. Complete expiration will come on June 2010.

As Windows 7 Build 7137 (7137.0.090521-1745) was compiled on May 21, Microsoft has undoubtedly moved onward with producing interim builds of the platform. Still, users should be extremely careful when it comes down to accessing Windows 7 releases from torrent trackers or other illegal sources, as the risk is that the bits could be infested with malware. Always make sure to check SHA1 and MD5 information, and if the data is not available, then better not risk the download.

Even before
Windows 7 Build 7137 was leaked, there was chatter on a few forums built around Windows enthusiast communities related to leaked details of Build 7140. A screenshot allegedly from that release started circulating, and got picked up by a few blogs. That screenshot was fake. And there is no way of telling what exactly Windows 7 Build 7140 will bring to the table. But try and take reports about Windows 7 development milestones with a grain of salt, no matter where they originate.

At this point in time, unconfirmed reports indicate that Microsoft managed to take Windows 7 all the way to Build 7141. But as I have already said, this means nothing more than the software giant continues to produce interim builds of the next version of the Windows client, softening all the rough edges before the product is released to manufacturing.

Windows 7 Build 7138 Service Pack 1

One interim build of Windows 7 that manages to stand out from the crowd is 7138. Windows 7 Build 7138 comes with Service Pack 1 already installed according to information leaked by
Wzor. Both copies of the Windows 7 client Build 7138 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Build 7138 feature Service Pack 1 already installed. The full build string for both the client and the server version is 7138.winmain_win7ids_sp090523-2200.

No word from Microsoft on just what the new Windows 7 SP1 builds mean, but it is highly unlikely that the Redmond-based company has already debuted the building and testing of the first service pack for Windows 7. My best guess is that the software giant is simply testing the mechanism of integrating service packs into Windows 7, but it is nothing more than a guess. However, from the screenshots leaked in the wild, it appears that 7138.winmain_win7ids_sp090523-2200 is as real as it gets. Furthermore, it seems that Microsoft has moved as high as 7141.0.winmain_win7ids_sp.090528 with the Windows 7 builds containing service pack 1.

32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 (Release Candidate) RC Build 7100.0.090421-1700 is available for download

ACN Video Phones Bring the Future to Life

Just a few short years ago, had you mentioned the word iPod, very few people would’ve known what you were talking about. Now the technology is in tens of millions of homes and continuing to grow in popularity. Likewise, many feel we are witnessing a shift in the way we communicate and devices unfamiliar to people yesterday will be all the rage in no time. And the device getting all the attention is the video phone.

The video phone’s functionality is made possible by something almost every home already has: the Internet. The high-speed connection we rely on to bring information to our computer screens can also carry our voices over the line. The technology is called VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP is the backbone of the latest breakthrough in telecommunications, digital phone service.

On its own, digital phone service sounds pretty appealing: unlimited calls, cheaper phone bills, great features and more. But combined with a video phone, digital phone service looks amazing. Video phones let users see one another rather than simply hearing each other’s voice on the line. Though it may sound, or look, too good to be true, most analysts agree that video phones will be present in the majority of households in the very near future.

One company is already making strides in bringing this futuristic technology to our everyday lives. ACN, the world’s largest direct selling telecommunications company, is also one of the world’s largest distributor of video phones. The company got started ahead of the curve and is poised to be a pivotal player in the video phone market as these devices become more commonplace.

“Seeing the person you are talking to on the phone is no longer a technology of the future,” said Robert Stevanovski, Chairman and Co-founder of ACN. “The video phone is something consumers are taking advantage of right now and it has become an integral focus of our company over the past few years. We believe that video phones will become just as common in households as we have seen before with other recent technological advancements, such as high-speed internet, mobile phones and iPods.”

As evidence of their commitment to the success of video phones, ACN has built its own VoIP network across the U.S. and Europe to support its video phone and digital phone service.

The product has a “wow factor”, the initial impression the video phone makes on its user when they experience for the first time what it’s like to see the person they’re talking to. In addition, video phones are incredibly easy to use, therefore ensuring users will want to take one home and put it to use long after the excitement has worn off.

The digital phone service, on which the video phone operates, simply runs on your existing Internet connection. To set up a video phone, you simply plug it in to a power source and attach the Internet connection. It’s just that simple. Video phones and digital phone service can be used to call any other type of phones whether traditional, mobile or video. And like a mobile phone, your video phone can accompany you anywhere there’s an Internet connection, so if you have to travel across the country, your video phone can connect you back home to see the ones you love.

It’s futuristic technology, only it’s here now. And if ACN provides any indication of what the future holds for this exciting device, the sky’s the limit. Digital video phones may just be the next wave of technology that truly changes the way we communicate.

Laptop Computers – Upgrade Or Replace?

Laptop computers are great. They offer convenience and flexibility to anyone who depends on a computer for their livelihood. They are also prone to annoying problems like the ones I’ve experienced lately. Here are just a few examples from the ongoing saga of my laptop:

• I had two instances of my Web browser open, along with a couple of other applications. As I ALT-Tabbed between apps, the ALT-Tab window – the one that displays all the open applications for you to move to – froze, front and center, on my screen. As I tried valiantly to work, the little window obstructed my view. When I happened to shut down one instance of my browser, the thing went away.

• I had one thin line on my monitor. It’s like some pixels went missing or something. A few weeks later, another line appeared. If this keeps going, I imagine I’ll lose a good portion of my screen by the end of the year.

• The battery conks out after less than 2 hours.

So, the question I’m left with is: should I upgrade my laptop or replace it?

Upgrading Laptop Computers – Pros and Potential Cons

The main benefit of upgrading is cost. Instead of paying for a brand new machine, I could just by a memory stick for a fraction of the price and hope that solves my problem. Memory is cheap. Refurbished memory is even cheaper. I know because my machine is ancient and, needing to look around for the right kind of memory, I checked a reseller.

For most people, memory upgrades are enough to boost performance, if performance is the real issue.

The potential con of an upgrade is that it may not fix the problem. So I could end up spending money on memory and lots of time trying to figure out how to install it, only to discover that my problem isn’t fixed.

Buying a New Laptop – Pros and Potential Cons

Money is also the main concern with buying a new laptop, but in this case, money is a “con”, not a “pro”. The costs of replacing technology can be significant for any business, big or small. Yes, it would be nice to have a new computer, and one that could actually handle running more than one application at a time, but is it better to take my chances on a memory upgrade? Is a new laptop affordable?

If you are in a similar situation to mine and you want an answer to that last question, here’s some advice. Look closely at your current and future needs. Make sure you consider a laptop that has room for expansion, in case you find yourself in this same situation a few years from now.

Laptop computers come in a wide range of sizes, from tiny netbooks to huge desktop replacements. Take a look at the price ranges for the specs you need. It can’t hurt to take a peek at the secondary market too. Used and refurbished laptop computers work as well as new ones – albeit with fewer bells and whistles due to their age.

Like all technology, laptop computers are a blessing and a curse. They make life easier, but they also make it a lot more expensive. Before you jump into a new purchase for your old laptop, be sure to research the possibility of upgrading. If you decide to buy, do your homework. Study the laptop computers on offer and choose the one that suits your work style and your budget.

The Business Benefits of Speech Technology & Voice Recognition Technology

In business, it is always necessary to try to stay ahead, use new technology and be innovative. Looking for ways to improve service and provide a better experience for your customers comes down to improvements in customer service and more efficiency in operations. You have the ability to make use of new speech to text and voice recognition technology to help you provide top notch service to your clients.

Using Technology

Every industry can benefit from improvements in customer service. New developments in speech to text and voice recognition technology has allowed for businesses to improve their customer service drastically.

Everyone from writers to medical services to call centers can use voice recognition software to provide service that is more fluent. Voice recognition software can also help to reduce costs, increase productivity and reduce stress for both customers and employees.

Benefits to Expect

Voice recognition software allows a business to put employees to better use. Software can handle answering incoming calls and routing calls. It can enable a company to reduce staff and cut training costs. Many tedious job duties related to phone operations can be streamlined and simplified.

Instead of having an employee who answers and routes phone calls, the software can handle the task. This allows that employee to be put to better use elsewhere or the position to be eliminated all together.

For call centers, voice recognition software can free up agents to handle calls that are more complex. Simple calls can be handled through the system where customers can guide themselves to the answers they need.

Speech to text software is perfect for anyone who wants to multitask. It makes it simple to dictate notes or documents verbally to the program that then turns those spoken words into written text. This is perfect for administrators, writers and ideal for those who spend much of the day moving around without time to spend in front of a computer. There are some programs that can be used via a mobile phone, which sends the information back to the computer.

Advances to Appreciate

The advances in voice recognition and text to speech technology have been great. If you have ever used an automated phone system then you can probably agree that these programs are advancing.

In the beginning, voice recognition and text to speech technology had many draw backs. The different accents and ways of saying words could confuse the system. This would lead to frustration on the part of the person using the system. Today’s systems, though, are much more advanced. They are better made to recognize hard to understand accents and alterations in the way people speech. This has reduced frustrations with voice recognition programs and allows them to be more readily used by businesses.

There is no need to be concerned about implementing a voice recognition program in your company. Thee are a range of options and different programs that allow you to find the system that will best suit your needs and allow you to best serve your customers and employees.

Computer Backup Solutions – All Systems Go?

The subject of computer backups has always been a topic of importance when it comes to preserving the data on your computer. These days there are more options available to you in this arena, which can be both a help and a hindrance. On one hand, having more options is helpful because better solutions have been brought to the marketplace from which you can now choose to fit your needs. A hindrance exists in that the multitude of choices might scare off users and cause them to avoid the issue altogether, which can have a disastrous ending.

It does not have to be complicated nor time consuming, so there is no good reason not to tackle backing up your computer.

The Philosophy

We all know that backing up can preserve the information that is stored on your computer, but how far do you take your backup philosophy? It depends on what you can ‘afford’ to lose.

To one computer user, just backing up periodically will suffice. The thought here is that if you lose your data, you can restore it apart from your operating system, and the time that this takes is not a critical consideration. Many home users fall into this category. It makes sense as long as you are not dependent upon your computer for time-sensitive applications and tasks and/or for accessing and retrieving data relative to finances, etc.

To another user this philosophy is not enough. Those who depend on their data and computer for more than just casual personal computing understand that if a hard drive fails, their business is down until they can get it back up and running again. Home users who store irreplaceable photographs and home video on their computers will also fall into this category. A more comprehensive backup plan is recommended to help recover from disasters in a timely fashion.

Computer Backup Options

There are several ways to tackle backups of your important data:

Built-in operating system options. Microsoft Windows operating systems provide built-in back up capabilities that allows you to back up your documents or files onto external media. Beginning with Windows XP and its Automated System Recovery feature, each successive Microsoft desktop operating system includes the capability to help recover your entire hard drive if necessary. These backup solutions are reliable and provide a built-in way for you to back up your data without having to buy an additional program to do so.

Manual copying onto external devices. You can always resort to the old stand-by method of backing up by manually copying your data onto an external hard drive, USB memory stick or other external device such as a recordable CD, DVD or even a floppy drive if you have one. This is cumbersome, but if you do not have a lot of files, it may be an acceptable solution for you. The pitfalls with this method are that if you have multiple files, you have to make sure you get all of them, and you may need numerous target media to save all of your files to.

Online options for backing up over the Internet. The newest option in
computer data backup solutions is provided by online companies that enable backup and restoration of your documents and files over an encrypted high-speed Internet connection to any PC. A small background application backs up and transfers your files to a hosted storage area in a remote datacenter when your computer is idle; however, this is not a comprehensive disaster recovery solution for your entire hard drive. This solution works best when targeted at protecting individual files and documents on a PC or a Mac, and is generally a subscription-based service for which you pay a monthly fee for use.

Making an image of your hard drive. This is a more comprehensive backup and disaster recovery solution generally performed by technically savvy computer users. This option includes using 3rd-party programs to make an image of your entire hard drive, which can then be “re-imaged” in case of catastrophic failure to a new hard drive, providing a hard drive disaster recovery plan. Using this solution, within a short period of time, you can be back up and running with ALL of your documents, settings, programs and EVERYTHING intact, as if the disaster never occurred.

The way to determine the best solution to fit your needs is to ask yourself how soon you need to be back up and running after encountering a disaster, and how much you are willing to pay. If you can wait several days, then a computer back up program might be right for you. If you need your data files immediately, and you have a second computer that you can copy them to, then an online solution might be the best way to go. Or finally, if your business depends upon your computer and its applications and data, then you must have a more comprehensive solution.

The Evolution and Progress of Voice Software

Voice software is an innovative idea, but one that faltered a little upon its inception. The first voice software products had many issues and problems that made them difficult to work with and generally more of a hassle than a solution. During recent years, it has greatly improved and now voice dictation and other voice software products are proving to be a great business solution.

How Voice Software Works

A voice recognition program can take dictation, turning words into text or it can work as an automated phone system, answering and routing incoming calls. That is not it, though, voice programs can enable you to do so much more, benefiting your business, your employees and your customers.

Programs and software can make computers more efficient allowing voice controls of different computer functions. This makes for a hands free option to allow for greater work production. It is a multi-tasker’s dream program.

Basic Features

Voice software must always be trained. The program must be trained to recognize the way different people speak. This training process is an important part of implementing the system, but once trained, the program virtually runs smoothly. Some programs even have features which allow the program to continue learning and have the ability to recognize mistakes and correct them on its own.

Voice dictation requires learning to use the program. These types of programs work best if the user tries to speak naturally when dictating. This suits the program better and reduces error rates. Additionally, a user must learn to insert punctuation, like commas, that the program may not insert. In time, this will become a natural part of the process.

Each program will be different, but some common features included in voice software are command features that allow you to do simple desktop tasks, like closing programs. Some programs will have a feature that scans you’re “My Documents” folder so it can learn frequently used words. This feature will speed up training.

Program Options

One of the top voice programs on the market for voice dictation is Dragon NaturallySpeaking. This program features mistake correction tools and program self training. Another good program is ViaVoice that has a special feature that allows the program to pick up on the way you speak, allowing it to better understand you and simplifying the training process.

When choosing a program you need to focus on your needs. If your main needs are voice dictation then look for a program tailored to dictation. If you need something for customer service or phone operations, then look for that type of program. It is smart to look at demos of the product options so that you can see what program may best suit you.

Voice programs have many uses in business and even personally. People from many different industries, with a range of job titles, find this technology to be something that is beneficial in today’s marketplace. It can completely change how you work and how you do business. For a company integrating this type of program into their operations it can mean a huge savings of time and money. The early programs may have scared some people away, but the changes and advances have made voice recognition technology something usable and beneficial.

8 Tips For Securing Your Home Computer

Security is something that everyone has to stay up with nowadays with all the credit card fraud and identity fraud in the news. There are many things that you can do to help keep your computer and your self safe. Follow these 8 steps and you will be better protected against security threats.

Turn off unnecessary processes

There are alot of programs that run in the background of your computer and some of those programs open up ports that can allow a hacker into your computer. By shutting down these programs that are most of the time unnecessary we can eliminate the amount of ports we have open on a computer.

Install Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware

This one is an absolute necessity for anyone who has a computer that is connected to the internet. An up to date anti-virus anti-malware program can be bought just about anywhere including online. One popular option is Symantec which has a full featured program to cover everything. Some other third party software also works well. Adware Bot and Spy No More - Anti Spyware

Turn on Windows Firewall or install a personal firewall

As was mentioned in tip number 1 we have ports open on our computer that can possibly allow a hacker in. Windows firewall (which comes free with windows) can block these types of ports. You can also purchase a third party firewall program that will help block these ports. There are many third party companies that provide excellent firewall programs. Firewall Gold

Have a router between you and the internet

Some ISP (internet service providers) such as cable allow you to plug into their modem and it gives your computer a public IP address. By installing a router between your ISP modem and your computer you can not only share your internet connection but you are also protecting yourself by not publishing your IP address to the internet.
A simple router is pretty inexpensive depending on the features that you get with it like wireless. Places like Best Buy and Global Computers have these routers.

Disable the computer guest account

The guest account for windows XP Professional is disabled by default but it is always a good idea to check and make sure.

Keep computer up to date with the latest Windows updates and anti-virus definition updates.

Windows workstations need to be constantly update in order to keep them secure. You can go to Windows Updates and get free Microsoft Windows updates.
Virus definition updates need to be purchased from the company

Backup important data

Backuping up data is not really a security item to keep your computer secure but more to keep you secure. Should your computer happen to be hacked or just crash if your data is backed up you will not lose your data.

Only download and install trusted software

One of the most common ways computers get viruses and malware is from software downloaded off of the internet. Certain programs downloaded from unknown sources contain viruses embedded within the program.
The best way to protect yourself against this is to not download software unless it is from a site that is totally trusted.

By following these eight steps you can significantly decrease your risk at being hacked or infected by a virus. The most important thing is to use common sense and you will stay protected.

Resolving Logitech Drivers Conflict the Quick and Easy Way

Logitech is a company that is synonymous with the cutting edge, the entertaining and somewhat of a large contributor to the gaming niche in the computer industry. Their products range from anything in the region of compute peripherals to award winning mice and speakers that are used by top end gamers. Their products are also well designed with a clean, trendy and current look that is very appealing to a majority of its consumers. But of course, like many of the computer products all over the world, there is a problem that afflicts them all - and that is that there are more than just prone to problems and conflicts.

Of course we cannot blame the manufacturer completely; the computing industry is one that evolves at a rate that is sometimes to fast to fathom and when it has that sort of speed in its development, you have the issue that problems and conflicts will always appear within the process. This is because while evolution is universal, the communication channels during that time is quite closed off and this is because of the factor of competition.

While manufacturers are hard at work trying to make things better for the end consumer, we all understand that problems are really very unavoidable and that they will happen a few times in our computing lives. So when you do receive problems with Logitech driver problems, there is no one Logitech method you can apply and as the methods are discussed here, you will notice that they are quite universal and can be applied to almost any other situation.

First of all, you need to check with Logitech of the version of the drivers that you have, because companies like these will always be updating their drivers on a monthly based on continued test and feedback from the community. They also work with OS providers in figuring out the best ways to route around conflict issues and this effort is translated into new and updated drivers.

All you need to do is to go online and get to their website, and you will more than likely find new drivers with a list of issues that have been resolved. If that does not work, then you need to use the resources of the internet, which are search engines, tech sites and forums. By simply describing the problem that you are facing, you will be able to find people with the same issues and their posts on a variety of other related problems.

The moderator or someone with some technical expertise will post either a solution, or an end user who has stumbled upon a way to resolve this would post up his methods and lead you to solving the problem. These methods can be applied to all hardware and software problems, not only Logitech drivers and 75% of the time, they will work. The other 25% is usually attributed to hardware problems and with this, you need to contact the manufacturer to get either a replacement or repair done on the spot.

What to Do When Your Computer Tells You "No Audio Drivers Detected"

Indubitably, one of the main problems when buying a computer is that there is no such thing as a hassle free and perfect life the moment you hit the power switch and wait for the magic to happen. As you know, the human factor very much still plays a part in the makings of a computer, and taking that into consideration against the perfection that is normally attributed to the engineering and manufacturing process, it should be obvious to you that no machine can ever be perfect.

In fact, there is no list long enough or volume big enough to list down the large numbers of errors that the computer can give you, but one of them is the “no audio drivers detected error”. This could soon be followed by the extremely deafening sound of silence no matter what DVD or CD you place in the disk drive. It is quite a bummer when you consider that one of the main uses of a computer system is entertainment, and unless you are proficient in Braille and can read lips, there is no point having a computer when its audio drivers do not work.

The problem can be from several sources, and the first thing you should be doing is to not panic, because it will not do anything remotely positive to aid the problem. In fact, your panic attack might actually worsen the problem as you incessantly thump the keyboard and swear at the computer screen, unnecessarily raising your own blood pressure. What you need to do is to check your drivers, because sometimes manufacturers will absent-mindedly insert either outdated or incompatible or even corrupt drivers.

Check and recheck the drivers, and the general advice is for you to check the website or any tech support forums that might have the correct and latest drivers posted for you to download. These will also be the places where you can check for any compatibility issues because as you know, PC makers and the factor of competition has led to them making hardware which may be incompatible with one another.

This miscommunication and unavoidable facet of the PC world makes it even harder for us, and however much board manufacturers and OS kings try to get rid of the problem, they will always be present to give us a migraine and dash our hopes for a clean install. So look up these sites for solutions to the problem.

If all else fails, it could be a core error with the system itself and to rectify this, you would need to reformat your computer and reinstall everything step by step. A clean install from ground up can help to eliminate some of these problems. If nothing still works, you can then forget about trying to fix it yourself; it’s time for you to lug your PC back to the vendor or to the repair shop, where they will charge you an amount to fix your computer to its former glory.

Audio Problems - 3 Tips on Troubleshooting Realtek Drivers

If you ever encounter a problem with your computer’s audio, one of the first things you should do is check the system bios and see if there is any problem with it. You need to understand that the bios is not a perfect piece of software and it is prone to problems as well. This means that it is prone to problems just like anything else in the computer. What you need to do is to either flash the same bios within the motherboard again or download the latest one from the website of the manufacturer.

All you need to do is to download the new bios and flash it with the instructions given to you in the manual. You should know that each motherboard has a different way of installing new bios. You need to be careful here as you do not want to wipe it out of your system in altogether. Messing it up could mean a painful and complicated move of realigning the jumpers and recalibrating your entire system again.

Also, another thing you can do is to update the Realtek drivers themselves. The drivers that you might be getting from the package might be old and untested with the current configuration of the computer you have now. Understand that technological advancement progresses at an insanely quick rate in today’s world of computing. In order to keep up with the constant evolution of technology, drivers will be updated often because of the changing digital environments.

As new programmes and new software are released, manufacturers often have to test and retest the code of their drivers and then change them accordingly to ensure that there is a high level of compatibility for all consumers. Knowing this, you need to be able to ensure that you have the latest drivers. To do this, you need to find them either online or through third party sources. Of course, the best ways to get them online is from the website of the manufacturer of your choice and just download them into your computer.

Last but not least, you need to be careful when you do install new software or hardware, especially when they are in the multimedia range of goods. Especially when you have an all in one or sound card that you wan tot install, you need to understand that there are certain procedures involved in the process of installing them.

One of them is that you need to deactivate the onboard chip to make sure that the installation goes smoothly and that you can eliminate all possible conflicts. This ensures that the installation process is very smooth and that no other problems might occur at the same time as well.

These are the three ways in which you can ensure that your audio driver issue with Realtek does not cause problems for you. Of course, do note that these are general tips - problems that are way more involved may require a more advanced technical expertise, depending on the severity of the issue.

Missing Video Device Driver - 3 Troubleshooting Tips

Many of us have had this problem and it is really one of the most common problems in the world of computing. The infamous black screen on the computer is one of the most hated sights in the history of the desktop computer, and it leads to plenty of frustration because there could be a whole host of problems associated with it.

Starting up your computer, especially a new one and getting that sickening beep from your monitor often means that it cannot communicate with the CPU. This is soon followed by the familiar non-screen display you will often see in such cases, and depending on your level of anger management, the tearing out of your hair as you try, in vain, to figure it out.

Fret not. This problem may be common, but it is not an overly difficult one to resolve.

If you just purchased your computer and the problem happens shortly after setting up, then the problem may lie in corrupted drivers that have been packaged into the CD provided to you at the time of purchase. The problem is quite simple to solve, and what you need to do is to reinsert the VGA driver until the computer defaults and restart everything once more.

Do not panic at the sight of a fuzzy, 8-bit color display. All you would need to do from there is to reinstall it and voila, you will have solved the problem of the black screen. You might need to do this more than once, but normally a once pass over is more than enough to restore your computer to the 32 bit glory that it should be in. After a little tweaking software side, you will be able to gain maximum clarity.

If this happens when you purchase a new VGA card, then the problem is most likely with the drivers you have, but it might not be an issue of corruption or a bad install. Sometimes, what you are getting in the carrier is not the latest compatible drivers and therein lies the problem. You need to avoid all these conflict issues and driver problems by simply getting the latest version from the manufacturers website and re installing the dang thing. That should solve all your problems right away.

Last but not least, one of the other troubleshooting tips is to ensure that you make full use of the Microsoft Windows Updater, which is one of the most important things to ensure that all possible device driver problems are avoided, not only VGA. This service ensures that your computer system is updated and in the right position to avoid conflicts. Having the best drivers and updated software/hardware makes this a possibility and this is why most techsperts will remind everyone to constantly update their version of Windows - and the best thing about this is that it is free.
